Black Hawk is a well revitalized gold rush mining town that now has rich history to explore and modern hotels and casinos for the gambling enthusiast. Nearly 10 miles north of Blackhawk at the peak of a mountain you will find Coldwater Springs Campground, a USFS campground with no amenities and true camping. The campground is a small loop of about a dozen sites all set amongst pines and aspens. Interior roads and site pads are dirt. Sites are fairly spacious and have fire rings, picnic tables and nice, level tent pads. Several sites are extremely unlevel making parking and leveling impossible. These sites are listed below as "Poor" sites and are not recommended for RVs. Some sites are pull off and others back in; check carefully the specifications of each site when booking to make sure you are getting what you want. Our site, number 8, was so unlevel we were bottoming out as we backed in and there was no way to get remotely level using even up to 30 leveling blocks on the rear tires. So, sadly, we pulled out and left to find a different place to stay. The campground is close to the road and sites 6 and up will have more road noise than others, but the road is not highly traveled, and quiet at night.
