Alpen Rose RV Park, Durango, Colorado

T

This lovely RV park featuring about 90 full hookup sites is set in a beautiful canyon just a couple of miles north of downtown Durango. The Animas river follows the highway into town where you will find a historic downtown, a plethora of restaurants and shops, the historic Silverton narrow gauge railroad, and tons of outdoor activities: hiking, biking, river rafting, tubing, kayaking, and fishing. Durango is truly an outdoor lover's paradise. The RV Park has two sections: the front section that has little shade but crisp, level, grassy sites, or the rear section that offers shady sites that are less level. For our stay, we were in the rear section and appreciated the shade of the trees on the warm summer days. You will find a large, lovely laundry room, office store with a few supplies, a fishing pond, pool, playground, pickle ball court, dog wash, pet playground, group pavilion, and a small cafe offering homemade breakfast and pizza dinners. Interior roads and site pads are packed gravel. Sites are spaced typical of an RV park. The best sites are the handful that back up to the fishing pond as they are shady and have nice views of the fountain pond. The office has games that they lend out free of charge: horseshoes, cornhole and the like. Many Saturday evenings in summer the park offers live music, which we enjoyed during our stay. Friendly staff greeted us and made sure our stay was comfortable. My only gripe is that the one trash dumpster is quite a trek from most sites and a daily trash collection by staff would be appreciated.
