Cherry Hill Park, College Park, Maryland

We had run into other fellow RVers who had highly recommended Cherry Hill Park as a great home base while exploring the Washington D.C., area. When planning our cross country trip to Washington D.C., we took the advice of others and planned a stay here. WOW! We really were surprised to find this well run private RV park so close to DC and all it has to offer! With over 150 sites, Cherry Hill offers full hookup sites for all RVers. Tenters can enjoy tent specific sites, or if a cottage, yurt, or log cabin is more your style, those are available as well. This park is large, but well run. Upon check-in, an informative receptionist will help you understand all the park has to offer, including
two pools, a splash pad park, several ponds, bath houses, dog runs, miniature golf, basketball courts, playgrounds, meeting rooms, a well appointed gift shop and market, laundry, TV lounge, outdoor theater, hot tub, sauna, a hiking trail around the property, and the Star Café. There is also a guarded gate that requires you to show a pass to enter the grounds. Your receptionist will also let you know of an orientation that occurs each day, late afternoon. This orientation is a great way to learn about how to get around DC, whether it be by public transit or private tours. I attended the tour and while there, had all of my questions answered. We decided to use public transit while in the area. The park has a bus depot where the city bus picks up at minimum every hour. This bus is a short ride to the Metro Center where you can then catch the Metro into the city. A MetroCard is recommended by the staff at Cherry Hill to load your money onto it and then used as you go. We opted for the unlimited rides MetroCard. The staff member holding the orientation was concerned that it wasn't worth the cost, but we found with our six day stay it paid for itself and then some. The bus depot on site is staffed and they can help you with any questions you may have about using the public transit system.
Campsites here are all fairly similar. All sites are gravel, and most interior roads are paved. Sites are fairly level and off hookups. We selected a premium site and with that we had a paved patio pad, picnic table and patio set. The entire area is wooded landscaped with mature trees. Grounds are very clean and well cared for, especially considering the size of this park! Two pools were wonderful to come back to after our busy days in the city. Lifeguards overlook the pools in case you doze off while your little ones are splashing around. The Star Café, open March through November, has hand-dipped ice cream and some basic foods like burgers, sandwiches, for lunch and dinner and also offers breakfast if that is more your style. Every night in the summer there is a different movie played in the Starlight Theater. This outdoor theater offers bench style seating while you enjoy a family friendly movie under the trees and stars. This was a big laundry stop for us; the laundry room is equipped with at least two dozen washers and dryers of all capacities. Cherry Hill Park is definitely a top-notch resort with fun for families and couples alike!
