William Kent Campground is one of several around the Lake Tahoe shoreline. Very few of those campgrounds actually are on the premium shoreline side of the roadway that loops around the lake; Meeks Bay appears to be one of those premium campgrounds. Being a bit more inland, you must cross a roadway to get to the Lake Tahoe shore from William Kent. Even with this disadvantage, however, this is a beautiful place to stay. Wooded, shady and nicely maintained, the campground offers several additional amenities including close proximity via a beautiful paved bike path into town where eateries, shops, the Truckee River and Lake Tahoe Dam, and more can be visited. We loved this bike path and enjoyed using it both days we were there to visit the town. Just across the roadway from camp you will also find
a small grocery store and a beautiful lodge and restaurants.
Inside the campground boundary you will find paved interior roads and site pads, and spacious sites with tables and fire rings. Sites do not have hookups and there are no laundry facilities here. For bigger rigs, some of the turns within the campground were a bit tight and had low-lying limbs, so move slowly and cautiously through the campground roadways. The campground, despite being surrounded by cabins on three sides and the roadway at the entrance have a quiet, peaceful feeling, especially interior sites. Several exterior sites are nestled a little too close for my liking along private property housing cabins. During our stay, yurts were being built for future travelers. Reservations are recommended during summer months and the campground closes in winter.
