This campground is one of two campgrounds available to tenters and RVers within Valley of Fire State Park, located about an hour northeast of Las Vegas and five miles West of Lake Mead. The smaller of the two campgrounds with nearly 30 sites, Arch Rock offers gravel pads and interior roads, fire pits, tables, shade covers, BBQs and scenic views of the beautiful red sandstone formations that make the park spectacular. Sites here are slightly less private in the main loop and accommodate smaller rigs and interior roads are slightly less maintained than its Atlatl Rock Campground neighbor. Sites that are off the main loop are spectacular and private, all with outstanding views of rock formations. Many of the these sites are nestled
between the sandstone rocks and are a top pick. Getting larger rigs over 30 feet into most of these spots is not a possibility because of the narrowing, steeper road. The Visitor's Center and many of the parks attractions including Petrified Rocks, Mouse's Tank and the Beehives are a short drive away, while Arch Rock and Atlatl Rock are footsteps from the campground entrance. Come prepared with all supplies, as there are no supplies available within the park and the nearest town is a good drive away. All sites are first come, first served and sites fill up by early afternoon on weekends and holidays in spring, fall. amd winter. In fact, we have attempted to come here four separate times, and only gottena site two of those. This park is pretty isolated and a bit of a trek to get to, so we've crossed this one off our destination list.Winters are cooler here and summer temperatures are unbearable at the century mark or higher.
