Stovepipe Wells Campground is conveniently located in the central region of Death Valley National Park, making it a nice home base as your explore the park. Stovepipe Wells itself is a one block "town" where a market/gift shop, restaurant, motel, gas station (no diesel) and this campground are located. Note that gasoline here is significantly cheaper than at Furnace Creek, so it's worth stopping for a fill up here over Furnace Creek. Although there are pretty views here, the campground is located on the back side of the market, creating a bustling, cramped atmosphere rather than the peaceful one we'd like while enjoying the
park. It's location, however does provide easy access to gas and food. There are no paved interior roads at this campground. It resembles more of a gravel and dirt parking lot and there is no privacy between sites, however very few campgrounds within the park offer private sites. A few sites offer electric hookups, which are valuable in the warmer fall or spring days. A few of the 190 sites available are designated for tents if a nicer site at Texas Springs Campground is not available. The campground is only open from October through April, and all sites are first come, first served. At night, enjoy the star studded skies in this International Dark Sky Park.
