Deadwood KOA, Deadwood, South Dakota

The Deadwood KOA, which is about an hour from Mount Rushmore, is one of the nicer KOAs we've been to. It is nestled into a mountainside just a couple of miles south of Deadwood and surrounded by beautiful scenery. The camp has all of the usual KOA amenities: laundry, wi-fi, hookups, playground, gift shop/convenience store, pool, and a free shuttle that provides transportation to downtown Deadwood on an hourly basis through the day and evening. If you've never been to Deadwood itself, this is a fun place to bring the family. Cowboys are abundant and the one street town has staged gunfights,
saloons, casinos and historic buildings. Our favorite saloon was Saloon 10, yet we found other sights fun and interesting as well such as Kevin Costner's Midnight Star Casino and Restaurant, the Miniature Train Museum where our kids operated the trains and the gold mine one mile south of town. At the end of the night, the free shuttle back to camp is just what you need to tuck you in!
