Bolsa Chica State Beach, Huntington Beach, California

Bolsa Chica State Beach is one of our favorite beaches in Southern California. This campground sets itself along the sandy, duneless coastline, where sunsets are premium. Electric and water hookups are at each site, and a beach front site is best here. Each site has a small sidewalk "patio" that lacks a fire ring and picnic table, but is nicely landscaped and kept clean by State Park employees. A bike/walking path divides the beach from the camp, and this path is a great one
to follow into the coastal town just to the north where a delicious meal or ice cream dessert can be found at Woody's. If you'd like to stay closer to camp, during the summer months a couple of beach cafes are found along the bike path, along with a convenience store and kayak rentals. Many of these cafes offer live music in the afternoons and can be fun place to eat, drink, and people watch. A visitor center highlighting the Bolsa Chica Ecological Preserve is just across the highway.

Comments

We agree that the beachside sites are prime property; however, since their rate increases, we don't want to pay the extra. After having stayed in the inland sites, we noticed that the road noise from Hwy 1 isn't really that bad and we find the inland sites are a bit more private/safe from the random traffic on the bike/walking trail. The inland sites are also much less breezy/chilly because the beachside sites take the brunt of the sea breeze! We love Bolsa Chica no matter what site we're in...don't forget to walk down to the Tidal Inlet and hike down the rocks for some amazing tide pool life!
